Being involved in the Student Ambassador Program will give you a chance to develop leadership and professional skills, and get better connected with fellow students and within your College community.
To represent the College of Social Work and social work in College sponsored activities and UK sponsored recruitment events. A main goal is to inform current and prospective social work students about the UK social work educational programs, opportunities for involvement in student organizations, and future careers in the social work profession.
Social Work Classroom Outreach
Each semester, student ambassadors present the “Careers in Social Work” power-point and narrative in the introductory social work courses to inform students about careers in social work, its mission, as well as the student organizations, events, service projects and academic tracts in the undergraduate and graduate programs available at UK’s College of Social Work.
Group Advising Conferences
Student Ambassadors attend group advising conferences to invite students to join student organizations, to register for the SWA Facebook group, and to distribute a calendar of events. They are also present as peer mentors to answer questions about items such as course selection, course loads, volunteer and field placements, and study and college success tips.
Recruitment Activities: Come See for Yourself/ UK Preview Night
Student Ambassadors represent the College of Social Work and its academic programs at University recruitment events. Student Ambassadors utilize marketing material from the College as well as their own experiences to answer prospective students’ questions regarding the UK’s BASW/MSW educational programs and possible careers in social work.
New Student Outreach
As part of a newly established program, student ambassadors try to make the transition to UK easier by welcoming new students to our college. They contact new students and invite them to join a student organization, participate in college events and offer to answer questions, as well as provide ongoing support.
Student Ambassadors participate as greeters to welcome our guests at College sponsored events such as graduation, lectures, and award ceremonies. Student Ambassadors also contribute a valued perspective and important opinions and ideas during the development of program initiatives (such as the creation of the
BASW Student Handbook).
If you are interested in becoming a Student Ambassador, contact Katie Wilder.
