Incorporating Supervision in Suicide Prevention Methods

Abstract

This presentation will discuss how the supervision of clinical providers treating suicidal or high-risk clients can impact suicide prevention efforts. This presentation will cover specific clinical and administrative recommendations for leaders in these roles. This presentation will also present the conceptualization of these supervision methods and encourage incorporating such methods as a standard in suicide prevention supervision roles.

Biography

Elizabeth Kemfort is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida. Elizabeth is a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) candidate at the University of Kentucky. She has a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with an advanced clinical concentration from Saint Leo University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree from the University of Central Florida, and an Associate of Arts degree from Florida State University. Elizabeth works as a Suicide Prevention Care Manager for the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she incorporates complex data management and clinical care towards the prevention of Veteran suicide. She has also worked in emergency departments and post-9/11 settings at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Elizabeth was one of twelve employees in 2021 at Bay Pines VA Medical Center accepted into the Leadership Bay Pines Program, recognizing future leaders at the facility. Since then, she has participated as a mentor for new participants in the program. Elizabeth presented nationally in a Post-9/11 Military2VA conference and created a national mentorship program for new employees working in this arena. Elizabeth’s current research interest lies in suicide prevention. Her capstone focuses on the integration of clinical and administrative supervision within conceptualized suicide prevention methods and the potential positive impact this could make in prevention efforts.
