Jason Boatwright is a proud Air Force veteran and a Doctoral Candidate in Social Work Organizational Leadership at the University of Kentucky. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of West Florida and a Master of Arts from Troy University. Jason’s distinguished military career was cut short by a medical discharge following an eye injury that left him partially blind for seven years, an experience that shaped his commitment to serving veterans and advocating for their needs.
In his current role as Chief of Community and Government Affairs for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Jason leads strategic initiatives to enhance veteran services and foster community partnerships. Previously, he served as the Director of Veterans Affairs for Congressman Matt Gaetz and as an advisor to multiple state and federal representatives on veteran and military affairs. These experiences have solidified his expertise in shaping policy and advocating for the veteran community.
Jason’s capstone project focuses on incorporating more social workers in policy practice, particularly within congressional offices, to work closely with elected representatives and drive meaningful change. His research interests include leadership diversity, policy integration in social work education, and innovative veteran support systems.
Recognized with numerous community service awards, Jason has been celebrated for his advocacy on behalf of veterans along the Gulf Coast. His dedication to advancing equity, transformative leadership, and veteran empowerment continues to leave a lasting impact.
