SUMMARY:Sibling Attachment and Adoption
DESCRIPTION:Sibling Attachment & Adoption provides parents with tools to promote healthy sibling relationships in foster and adoptive families. Parents will explore different ways in which families are formed and learn tips on helping children to explain blended families (biological\, adopted\, foster and step) when the need arises. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nArticulate different ways children may become siblings and view sibling relationships.\nApply tools to facilitate healthy relationships between siblings\, regardless of how these relationships were formed.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. There is 1.5 hours of ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit available for Kentucky’s foster parents. \nCreate an account or log-in to register for this training. A reliable internet connection and a smartphone\, tablet\, or computer with web camera is needed to participate. DESCRIPTION:Understanding a Case Through the Child Welfare System will provide foster and adoptive parents knowledge on how a case progresses through the child welfare system. Each case may include removal\, placement options\, court\, case plans\, meetings\, and permanency goals. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand how a case is processed through the Child Welfare System and terminology related to a child’s case and people involved.\nDescribe potential outcomes including placement and permanency goals and how to support the child’s needs and help them understand the process of foster care and adoption as they approach these outcomes.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. DESCRIPTION:Recognizing the Signs of Adoption Disruption & Dissolution will teach foster/adoptive parents about adoption disruption and dissolution by equipping them with information regarding factors that contribute to disruption/dissolution\, statistics on disruption/dissolution rates\, and warning signs of a disruption or dissolution. The training also discusses ways to prevent a disruption/dissolution from occurring. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nDefine and compare the terms disruption and dissolution\, as well as identify factors and variables that have been shown to contribute to adoption disruption or dissolution.\nArticulate warning signs that indicate a disruption/dissolution as well as identify ways that they can be both proactive and reactive in order to prevent them from occurring.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents.
