SUMMARY:Kinship Live Virtual Webinar Training- “Internet Series: How To Monitor The Bad Stuff Online-Cyberbullying\, Sexting\, And Contacting People I Don’t Like”
DESCRIPTION:Keeping kids safe online seems to become more and more difficult as technology continues to change.  Between all the new apps that allow texting\, chatting\, and private messaging\, it seems like a never-ending task to try to keep up with the latest trends and technologies.  While this technology allows us even more ways to communicate\, it seems it also allows kids more opportunities to be harmful or experience harmful situations.  Even more concerning is that it is becoming increasingly easier for kids to hide their online experiences\, making it more difficult for caregivers to understand and protect their kids. \nJoin us as we explore ways in which we can better understand how to monitor your child’s online experiences with national speaker Lisa Honold\, founder of the Center for Online Safety! Through this webinar\, provided by a nationally recognized consultant with the Center for Online Safety\, we will learn ways that we can better monitor what our children are doing online and therefore\, better protect them from harmful influences. You won’t want to miss this opportunity! \nREGISTER NOW \nAbout the Trainer: \nLisa Honold is the founder of the Center for Online Safety\, a national organization that encourages parents\, caregivers\, teachers and communities to be intentional in creating relationships with children and teens\, especially around technology. Lisa believes technology is a great thing\, but it’s important to start kids off with “training wheels” online and to stay involved with their tech use. \nPlease note: Although this LIVE webinar is designed to be an informative\, educational\, and helpful resource for kinship families caring for relative or fictive kin children\, anyone is welcome to attend including foster parents\, professionals\, students\, or community members. \nIt is our hope that by participating in this LIVE webinar\, attendees will receive educational and helpful information. However\, it is important to note that this webinar is not approved for foster parent training credit or CEU’s as attendance is not monitored during the webinar event.

SUMMARY:Understanding And Managing Youth’s Challenging Behaviors – Part 1
DESCRIPTION:CORE TEEN (Critical On-going Resource Family Education) \nSession 5 \nUnderstanding and Managing Youth’s Challenging Behaviors – Part 1 \nOctober 11\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST \nVia Zoom \nStephanie Spires \n2 credit hours \nNavigating the teen years can be challenging. It is even more difficult for youth that have experienced trauma. The University of Kentucky in collaboration with DCBS\, will offer training to equip foster and adoptive parents to meet the needs of older youth who have moderate to serious emotional and behavioral health challenges. \nDuring Understanding and Managing Youth’s Challenging Behaviors – Part 1\, parents will focus on high-risk behaviors and the vulnerabilities of youth with challenging behaviors who have experienced trauma. More specifically\, this session will focus on challenging behaviors such as rejection\, testing\, disrespect\, anger\, and withdrawal. These behaviors were at one time needed to survive and are common in youth who have experienced early trauma. They may bring these same behaviors into your family\, even though they are no longer needed for survival. \nIn order to help teens manage their range of emotions\, which are often triggered by past experiences\, parents and caregivers must be able to regulate themselves as well during high intensity moments. During this session parent will: \n\nLearn the important components to parental regulation.\nUnderstand how to regulate themselves through a variety of techniques.\nUnderstand the importance of self-regulation and modeling those behaviors for the youth.\n\nThis session will help parents understand their youth’s challenging behaviors and develop strategies to manage them safely and effectively. To learn more about this program\, please feel free to contact Carla Jordan\, TRC Training Specialist\, at carla.jordan@uky.edu or 1-833-859-3278 (1-833-UKY-FAST). \nREGISTER NOW \nPlease note each session is approved for ongoing\, elective training credit for Kentucky Foster Parents. This program also meets the requirements for CarePlus Training. Basic & Advanced Foster Parents\, Fictive Kin Foster Parents\, Care Plus\, or Therapeutic Foster Parents can all take advantage of the opportunity to fulfill their training hours. A reliable internet connection and computer/smartphone with webcam are required.

SUMMARY:Understanding And Managing Youth’s Challenging Behaviors – Part 2
DESCRIPTION:CORE TEEN (Critical On-going Resource Family Education) \nSession 6 \nUnderstanding and Managing Youth’s Challenging Behaviors – Part 2 \nOctober 25\, 2023 \n10:00 AM – 12:30 PM EST \nVia Zoom \nStephanie Spires \n2.5 credit hours \nNavigating the teen years can be challenging. It is even more difficult for youth that have experienced trauma. The University of Kentucky in collaboration with DCBS\, will offer training to equip foster and adoptive parents to meet the needs of older youth who have moderate to serious emotional and behavioral health challenges. \nThere are many reasons that foster and adoptive youth display challenging behaviors. For some youth\, living in a family and accepting parental guidance and support is exceedingly difficult. By the end of the session parents will: \n\nLearn and demonstrate skills needed to assist their youth during a crisis situation.\nParents will learn how to respond appropriately when teens display high-risk behaviors like:\n\nRisky sexual behaviors\nAggressive behaviors towards others\nUsing the internet and social media appropriately\nSelf-injurious behaviors and suicidal ideation\n\n\nParents will learn strategies to keep their youth and others safe.\nParents will learn crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.\nLearn how to access and be actively involved in professional supports that their foster/adoptive youth may need to access.\n\nThis session will teach foster/adoptive parents learn skills needed to address\, intense\, frequent\, or long-lasting high-risk behaviors that they threaten the quality of life and/or the physical safety of the teen or others. For additional information about this session\, please feel free to contact Carla Jordan\, TRC Training Specialist\, at carla.jordan@uky.edu or 1-833-859-3278 (1-833-UKY-FAST). \nREGISTER NOW \nPlease note each session is approved for ongoing\, elective training credit for Kentucky Foster Parents.
