DESCRIPTION:This new KIN VIP Support Group will begin as a 12-week pilot Support Group and will provide a community of support for kinship caregivers who have been impacted by a family member’s substance use. This group will offer a safe space where kinship caregivers can find support\, understanding\, resources\, and hope. \nThe group is completely free and available to any caregiver raising a relative or fictive kin child. DESCRIPTION:Food is a necessity and when you become a kinship parent\, your food bill doubles\, triples\, even quadruples literally overnight! With the rising cost of food\, it is important to know how to get the most food at the grocery store for the money you have to spend. During this webinar\, we will learn methods for saving money when buying groceries\, how to buy for a larger family\, and examine some common techniques used by stores to increase sales-not save you money. We’ll also take a look at the Meat Department specifically to learn which cuts of meat to buy for your family\, what to look for when choosing meat at the grocery store\, and how to save money while shopping. \nJoin us for the first webinar of 2024 where we will talk with Dr. Gregg Rentfrow\, University of Kentucky’s Extension Meat Specialist to learn ways to plan\, save\, and get the most food for the money! \nREGISTER NOW \nAbout the Trainer: \nDr. Gregg Rentfrow\, Extension Meats Specialist\, University of Kentucky. \nDr. Rentfrow comes from an extensive agricultural background. Dr. Rentfrow’s experience with the retail meat industry began as a teen when he learned to cut meat for a local grocery store\, leading to management of retail meat departments for larger grocery chains. From there\, Dr. Rentfrow left the retail grocery store business and attended the University of Illinois\, earning his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science and Meat Science\, and later\, his Ph.D. in Meat Science and Muscle Biology at the University of Missouri. \nDuring this time\, Dr. Rentfrow has served as the Meats Judging Team Coach\, the interim Meat Lab Manager\, and the Meat Specialist for the Commercial Ag Program. He joined the University of Kentucky as the Extension Meats Specialist in 2006\, with an extension/teaching appointment and now works with UK Extension Specialists and County Agents in establishing strong livestock and meat industry programs in Kentucky. Dr. Rentfrow continues to develop educational programming and workshops for consumers\, meat producers and manufacturers. \nPlease note: Although this LIVE webinar is designed to be an informative\, educational\, and helpful resource for kinship families caring for relative or fictive kin children\, anyone is welcome to attend including foster parents\, professionals\, students\, or community members. \nIt is our hope that by participating in this LIVE webinar\, attendees will receive educational and helpful information. DESCRIPTION:Navigating the teen years can be challenging. It is even more difficult for youth that have experienced trauma. Parents that are not trauma-informed may have the best intentions. However\, having to encounter disruptive behaviors and other trauma responses may overshadow even the best of intentions. These encounters can create conflict in the parent/child relationship and ultimately can cause more harm than good for all involved. \nDuring this CORE (Critical On-going Resource Family Education) Teen Training session #1\, parents will learn to nurture and promote the well-being of their youth through trauma-informed parenting. More specifically\, parents will: \n\nDefine trauma\nDescribe ways that traumatic stress and adversity impact a youth’s development\nDescribe the importance of responding to the underlying cause of a youth’s behaviors\n\nREGISTER NOW \nThis session will help caregivers understand how trauma has impacted the cognitive and emotional development of youth and how youth may respond to those who are in the parental role.
