SUMMARY:Kinship Live Virtual Webinar Training – Navigating Tough Conversations with Kids
DESCRIPTION:Raising children and teens in today’s society can be challenging-raising kinship children to navigate these challenges successfully can be even more challenging. As kinship caregivers we hope to prepare our children for all the difficult choices and situations they may face as they grow up in an ever-changing society and culture; however\, navigating these conversations can be difficult when you are raising someone else’s child-even if that child is your grandchild\, niece\, nephew\, cousin\, sibling\, or a fictive kin child. \nIn this webinar\, we will explore how to best navigate these tough conversations by learning how caregivers can build trusting relationships with the children in their care-through open dialogue and mutual understanding. We will discuss ways to build trust and communicate effectively\, so that you can successfully navigate these tough conversations with your kids. \nREGISTER NOW \nAbout the Trainer: \nArion Jett-Seals is a compassionate and dedicated human service professional with over 14 years of experience as a kinship caregiver. After receiving a phone call from social services\, Arion began caring for her newborn cousin. Balancing medical care\, therapies\, family dynamics\, grief and educational support has presented both challenges and rewards along the way; however\, Arion strives to be a source of optimism and motivation for others. Armed with degrees in Social Work\, she founded Holistic Rise: Personal and Professional Development\, LLC. Arion’s commitment to helping others stems from her belief in the power of gratitude\, mindfulness\, and holistic practices. By empowering individuals with the tools and support they need\, she assists them on their journey towards personal growth\, well-being\, and success. Passionate about helping the helpers\, she dedicates herself to supporting the caregivers and emotional laborers in their vital role within families and communities. \nPlease note: Although this LIVE webinar is designed to be an informative\, educational\, and helpful resource for kinship families caring for relative or fictive kin children\, anyone is welcome to attend including foster parents\, professionals\, students\, or community members. \nIt is our hope that by participating in this LIVE webinar\, attendees will receive educational and helpful information. However\, it is important to note that this webinar is not approved for foster parent training credit or CEU’s as attendance is not monitored during the webinar event.

SUMMARY:Kinship Live Virtual Webinar Training – Kentucky Youth Advocates: Navigating the Child Welfare System as a Kinship Family
DESCRIPTION:Last year\, Kentucky Youth Advocates worked in collaboration with child welfare stakeholders (including relative and fictive caregivers) getting feedback on the common issues they faced when first involved in the system. To learn more about what we heard\, see the compiled report here: https://kyyouth.org/lessons-learned-from-navigating-the-system/ \nThroughout 2024\, KYA is sharing this information with current and former child welfare-involved persons\, as well as professionals who serve them\, through informational and discussion sessions. We will also present developed resource cards addressing rights\, navigation\, and support needs. \nIf you are a current or former kinship caregiver\, run a support or advocacy group\, or provide mentorship\, then come and join us! We will explore the common themes we heard during the focus groups and provide action steps each of you can take to advocate for yourself and others and both find and share resources. Kinship caregivers and those who support them are not alone! \nREGISTER NOW \nPlease note: Although this LIVE webinar is designed to be an informative\, educational\, and helpful resource for kinship families caring for relative or fictive kin children\, anyone is welcome to attend including foster parents\, professionals\, students\, or community members. \nIt is our hope that by participating in this LIVE webinar\, attendees will receive educational and helpful information.
