SUMMARY:Trauma and Sensory Processing Training
DESCRIPTION:The Foster Parent Training Program is holding a 90-minute training to help foster parents understand how sensory processing and trauma intersect—and how this affects behaviors\, meltdowns\, and relationships. We’ll break down the 8 sensory systems in easy-to-understand ways\, explore how trauma can heighten sensory sensitivities\, and share practical strategies to support regulation and connection. \nParticipants will take a short self-assessment to reflect on their own sensory styles and leave with actionable tools to use at home. \nThis training is approved for Foster Parent Training credits up to 1.5 hours of elective foster parent training credit. \nTraining Objectives:\nBy the end of this session\, foster parents will be able to: \n\nIdentify and describe the 8 sensory systems and how they impact behavior.\nRecognize sensory thresholds and patterns in children.\nRecognize the difference between sensory preferences vs a potential sensory processing disorder\nUnderstand how trauma can influence sensory processing and regulation.\nApply simple\, trauma-informed sensory strategies to prevent and respond to dysregulation in the home\, while maintaining connection.\n\nREGISTER HERE \nTrainer Bio\nLora Buth\, MS\, OT/L is a licensed occupational therapist with a master’s degree in occupational therapy and an undergraduate degree in psychology. Prior to becoming an OT\, she worked at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home supporting children in residential care\, which led she and her husband to later becoming foster parents. As a traditional OT\, her work focused on the pediatric population through early intervention\, home health\, and outpatient therapy. Today\, Lora’s focus is on parent education and consultations. Through her company Connected Littles Co.\, she consults with adoptive and foster families to help them better understand behaviors and build secure connections. She specializes in translating sensory and trauma-informed strategies into simple\, relational parenting practices.

DESCRIPTION:Social workers play a critical role in supporting individuals whose executive functioning has been disrupted by trauma. Executive functions—such as emotional regulation\, working memory\, impulse control\, and goal setting—are essential for adaptive behavior and daily functioning. Yet trauma\, particularly chronic or complex trauma\, can derail the development and application of these skills.  \nThis session is designed specifically for social workers seeking to deepen their understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and executive functioning. Strategies to help clients build these skills will be explored. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the Grandparent’s Connection group is now taking new members! This group has been designed for grandparents who are raising grandchildren and is focused on helping one another navigate the kinship journey. \nNew this year for the Grandparent’s Connection group-each meeting we will supplement our conversation with a craft that we can work on together! DESCRIPTION:Building Positive Relationships with Case Workers & Community Partners provides foster parents the information and tools needed to establish a positive working relationship with their caseworker and child’s caseworker\, with the goal of providing the best possible continuum of care for the child. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nWork in partnership with social service workers and community partners to ensure the needs of the child(ren) in their home are being met and align with permanency goal(s).\nUtilize strategies to foster mutual respect\, communicate effectively\, and maintain appropriate boundaries.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. There is 1.5 hours of ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit available for Kentucky’s foster parents. \nCreate an account or log-in to register for this training.
