DESCRIPTION:This new KIN VIP Support Group will begin as a 12-week pilot Support Group and will provide a community of support for kinship caregivers who have been impacted by a family member’s substance use. This group will offer a safe space where kinship caregivers can find support\, understanding\, resources\, and hope. \nThe group is completely free and available to any caregiver raising a relative or fictive kin child. DESCRIPTION:Food is a necessity and when you become a kinship parent\, your food bill doubles\, triples\, even quadruples literally overnight! With the rising cost of food\, it is important to know how to get the most food at the grocery store for the money you have to spend. During this webinar\, we will learn methods for saving money when buying groceries\, how to buy for a larger family\, and examine some common techniques used by stores to increase sales-not save you money. We’ll also take a look at the Meat Department specifically to learn which cuts of meat to buy for your family\, what to look for when choosing meat at the grocery store\, and how to save money while shopping. \nJoin us for the first webinar of 2024 where we will talk with Dr. Gregg Rentfrow\, University of Kentucky’s Extension Meat Specialist to learn ways to plan\, save\, and get the most food for the money! \nREGISTER NOW \nAbout the Trainer: \nDr. Gregg Rentfrow\, Extension Meats Specialist\, University of Kentucky. \nDr. Rentfrow comes from an extensive agricultural background. Dr. Rentfrow’s experience with the retail meat industry began as a teen when he learned to cut meat for a local grocery store\, leading to management of retail meat departments for larger grocery chains. From there\, Dr. Rentfrow left the retail grocery store business and attended the University of Illinois\, earning his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science and Meat Science\, and later\, his Ph.D. in Meat Science and Muscle Biology at the University of Missouri. \nDuring this time\, Dr. Rentfrow has served as the Meats Judging Team Coach\, the interim Meat Lab Manager\, and the Meat Specialist for the Commercial Ag Program. He joined the University of Kentucky as the Extension Meats Specialist in 2006\, with an extension/teaching appointment and now works with UK Extension Specialists and County Agents in establishing strong livestock and meat industry programs in Kentucky. Dr. Rentfrow continues to develop educational programming and workshops for consumers\, meat producers and manufacturers. \nPlease note: Although this LIVE webinar is designed to be an informative\, educational\, and helpful resource for kinship families caring for relative or fictive kin children\, anyone is welcome to attend including foster parents\, professionals\, students\, or community members. \nIt is our hope that by participating in this LIVE webinar\, attendees will receive educational and helpful information. SUMMARY:Fostering & Adopting Sibling Groups
DESCRIPTION:Fostering & Adopting Sibling Groups explores the benefits of placing siblings together as well as potential barriers and challenges. The impact of on attachment and bonding among siblings who have experienced trauma is discussed. Considerations related to caring for a sibling placement are explored. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nRecognize positive aspects of placing siblings together as well as potential barriers and challenges.\nIdentify items to consider before accepting a placement of siblings.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. There is 1.5 hours of ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit available for Kentucky’s foster parents. \nCreate an account or log-in to register for this training. A reliable internet connection and a smartphone\, tablet\, or computer with web camera is needed to participate. If there are two adults in the same household that want to participate in this training\, each person must register separately. Foster parent training credit is administered based on the duration of the meeting and each attendee’s participation.
