SUMMARY:Kinship Live Virtual Webinar Training – Get to Know Your Community Resources: Who or What is Community Action?
DESCRIPTION:As a part of our growing series on knowing your Community Resources\, we want to introduce Community Action Services. Community action is a vital resource serving every county in Kentucky and provides many resources to families throughout the Commonwealth. As stated on the capky website\, Community Action agencies “provide life-changing resources to support an array of service areas including food security\, transportation\, home energy\, early childhood education\, senior support\, emergency services\, housing\, workforce development\, family advocacy\, and more” (https://www.capky.org/about-us/). While the services can differ based on the county\, Community Action allows for local-level decision making to identify and plan programs that can be most beneficial to each specific community. \nJoin us for this informative webinar and learn how Community Action works within the community to provide hope and support to many of Kentucky’s families! \nREGISTER NOW \nAbout the Trainer: \nKatelyn Miller is the Opportunity Lead for Community Action Kentucky. According to their website\, Community Action Kentucky is a “statewide association representing and supporting all 23 Community Action agencies across Kentucky”. Community Action Kentucky works to empower individuals and families to gain “greater economic stability and long-term success”. \nThe mission of Community Action Kentucky (CAK) is to “build and strengthen the network of Kentucky’s Community Action agencies” in an attempt to improve the lives of the people this organization serves. CAK identifies and addresses policy issues with impact low-income individuals \nPlease note: Although this LIVE webinar is designed to be an informative\, educational\, and helpful resource for kinship families caring for relative or fictive kin children\, anyone is welcome to attend including foster parents\, professionals\, students\, or community members. \nIt is our hope that by participating in this LIVE webinar\, attendees will receive educational and helpful information. However\, it is important to note that this webinar is not approved for foster parent training credit or CEU’s as attendance is not monitored during the webinar event.

SUMMARY:KIN-VIP Support Group Fictive Kin 101
DESCRIPTION:Caring for a child that you are not related to is challenging–but when you are taking care of a child that you love\, be it a neighbor\, a friend’s child\, or your child’s friend\, suddenly it all makes sense\, even if it is still difficult to navigate.  How do you raise someone else’s child? Are there any supports out there for those fictive kin caregivers? What about visits? \nIn this group\, we will explore the challenges of being a fictive kin caregiver and identify resources that are out there while we support each other in our own fictive kin journeys. \nFacilitated by Heather Hall\, a fictive kin caregiver and an advocate for fictive kin caregivers with Kentucky legislature\, this group will provide a supportive\, safe space where fictive kin caregivers can come to get answers\, find relationships\, and hopefully continued support for their journey. \nREGISTER NOW
