David Rosenberg College of Law as an Admissions Counselor in September 2025. Prior to joining the College of Law\, he worked at the University of Cincinnati as a Senior Transfer Advisor and has worked in higher education for the past ten years. Keith was born and raised here in Lexington\, Ky. He received his BS in Criminal Justice and Safety from Eastern Kentucky University in 2012 and received his MA in Student Personnel Services in 2015. In 2024\, he received his Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Abilene Christian University. \nKennadi Spraggs\, JD\nKennadi Spraggs is an associate attorney at EMWN Law\, where she focuses her practice on transactional law\, estate planning and administration\, and real estate matters. She joined the firm in April 2025 and was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in October 2025. Originally from Marshall County\, Kentucky\, Kennadi has lived in Lexington for the past seven years. She is a proud University of Kentucky alumna\, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science\, magna cum laude\, in 2022. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law in May 2025\, where she received the Core-Law Diversity/Merit Scholarship. During law school\, Kennadi held leadership roles including Vice President of the Women’s Law Caucus and the Law Wellness Initiative\, and Social Chair of the Student Bar Association. She also gained experience working in state and local government\, assisting with legal research\, legislation\, and policy initiatives. \n  \nStephanie Quiring\, J.D.\, Ph.D\nStephanie Quiring\, J.D.\, Ph.D.  \nDr. Quiring has spent over 15 years as advocate\, educator\, and attorney across various stages of the criminal legal system. More specifically\, working and advocating in spaces where a person experiencing mental health crisis intersects with the criminal legal system. Her legal practice focused on criminal defense with a subspecialty in advocating for clients where mental health issues were involved. Her dissertation\, Living with serious mental illness\, police encounters\, and relationships of power: A critical phenomenological study\, was published in 2021. Dr. Quiring joined the University of Kentucky College of Social Work as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in August 2025. Before joining the UK team\, she was on faculty at Indiana University and served as the Research Director for the NAMI Indiana Technical Assistance Center for Mental Health and Justice. As part of her partnership with the NAMI Indiana\, the focus has been on the further development of state-level infrastructure for community-based mental health and substance use crisis response\, to include providing Sequential Intercept Model mapping across Indiana. Continuing her state-level focus\, Dr. Quiring recently served as the principal investigator on the Investing in Recovery Communities: A Statewide Social Return on Investment Analysis. This research\, with the support of the Indiana Division of Mental Health & Addictions\, centered the lived experiences of people navigating recovery and the growing recovery communities supporting multiple paths of recovery for Hoosiers. She is excited to be working on a similar project for the state of Ohio in 2026. \nDr. Quiring earned her Juris Doctorate from the Howard University School of Law and her PhD from Indiana University School of Social Work. As a translational scholar\, her current areas of research\, writing\, and teaching include: community-based mental health crisis response\, recovery service organizations\, peer support across the care continuum\, abolitionist feminist praxis\, critical phenomenology\, interpretative phenomenological analysis\, collective wellness\, mental health law & policy\, Crisis Intervention Teams\, police\, criminal legal system\, 4th and 5th amendment issues\, state violence\, power relationships\, death penalty. \nJenny Scott\, J.D.\nJenny Scott graduated from Centre College in 1990 and from the UK College of Law in 1993. She began her career as a law clerk for Honorable Judge Lewis Paisley and thereafter spent several years prosecuting in Lexington. In 1998\, she opened her own law practice\, focusing on criminal and family law. In addition to her divorce and custody work\, Jenny has also developed an extensive family formation practice (adoption and surrogacy) and is a member of the Academy of Adoption & Assisted Reproduction Attorneys.  Jenny’s considerable experience in contested adoptions take her across the state to aid families in creating forever bonds. Jenny has been married to her grade-school sweetheart for over 30 years\, with two adult daughters. Her practice is located in the Hamburg area of Lexington and she is supported by a wonderful associate and staff. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:First Steps: Kentucky’s Early Intervention System explores the services provided by this program. Participants learn how to refer children ages zero to three who have developmental delays\, or medical conditions known to cause developmental delays\, for First Steps services. PCAK has designed curricula to address current trends and best practice for the prevention of child maltreatment. \nThe Internet Safety training provides strategies to EDUCATE\, MONITOR and COMMUNICATE internet safety. As a result of this training\, participants will understand risks and learn how to keep children protected both from unsafe material as well as from predators who are unyielding in their efforts. The groups offer an opportunity to share experiences\, questions\, resources\, and concerns in a safe and compassionate environment. SUMMARY:Internet Safety with Detective John Sims\, Kentucky State Police
DESCRIPTION:Internet Safety is a training designed and presented by KSP Detective John Sims to empower and equip parents and caregivers to help children navigate the digital world safely with a focus on the following topics: \n\nParenting Tips for Online Safety\nArtificial Intelligence (AI) and Child Safety Online\nEmoji Slang: A Guide for Parents\nSocial Media\nGaming Safety\nWhat Parents Should Know about Sextortion\nSlang Terms and Their Meaning\nHidden Apps\nParental Control Apps\nTime allowing\, there will be a Q&A at the end of the training\n\nAbout the Trainer: \nJohn Sims is a Detective for the Electronic Crime Branch of the Kentucky State Police\, with over 23 years of Law Enforcement experience and 18 of those years being spent in Investigations. \nSims began his Law Enforcement career with the Paducah Police Department in February of 2001. He was a graduate from DOCJT Class #304 and spent two years of Patrol before applying with the Kentucky State Police. Sims graduated from Class #81 with the Kentucky State Police in October of 2003. Sims was assigned to Post 1\, Mayfield. While working as a Road Trooper\, Sims was assigned to Graves and McCracken Counties. In March of 2006\, Sims transferred to Investigations. During his tenure as a Post 1 Detective\, Sims took various trainings and became specialized in working Financial Investigations and ICAC Investigations. He also became proficient in crime scene photography. While working in Investigations at Post 1\, Sims was named Detective of the Year at Post Level in 2012 and was named Detective of the Year for the Kentucky State Police in 2015. \nIn January 2017\, the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch (ECB) expanded to include detectives that covered different parts of the state. The primary function of the ECB is to work investigations regarding the exploitation of children via electronic means. Detective Sims was assigned to the ECB and worked investigations in the Western part of state covering multiple counties over multiple Post Districts in 2017. Since his start at the ECB\, Detective Sims has become proficient in Peer to Peer (P2P) Investigations including BitTorrent\, Emule\, CPS\, and Freenet. \nIn August of 2022\, Detective Sims became the second Electronic Storage Device Detection (ESDD) K9 handler with the state\, with his partner Cam. Cam is an English lab who is trained to detect electronic storage devices and assists the Electronic Crime Branch on search warrants regarding the exploitation of children. In 2021\, Detective John Sims was named the Detective of the Year for the Electronic Crime Branch. \nThis training has been approved for ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit. 2.0 hours is available for Kentucky’s foster parents. Foster parent training credit is administered based on the duration of the training and each attendee’s participation. A reliable internet connection and a smartphone\, tablet\, or computer with web camera is required to participate. Note that this training will address sensitive subject matter.
