SUMMARY:Kinship Families Impacted By Substance Use KIN VIP Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This new KIN VIP Support Group will begin as a 12-week pilot Support Group and will provide a community of support for kinship caregivers who have been impacted by a family member’s substance use. This group will offer a safe space where kinship caregivers can find support\, understanding\, resources\, and hope. \nThe group is completely free and available to any caregiver raising a relative or fictive kin child. SUMMARY:A New Suitcase Of Parenting Knowledge And Skills
DESCRIPTION:CORE TEEN (Critical On-going Resource Family Education) \nSession 7\n \nA New Suitcase of Parenting Knowledge and Skills  \nMarch 21\, 2024 \n6:30 PM-8:30 PM EST \nVia Zoom \nStephanie Spires \n2 credit hours \nNavigating the teen years can be challenging. It is even more difficult for youth that have experienced trauma. The University of Kentucky in collaboration with DCBS\, will offer training to equip foster and adoptive parents to meet the needs of older youth who have moderate to serious emotional and behavioral health challenges. \nSession 7 wraps up the CORE Teen Training Program. During this final session parents will continue to add to their “trauma- informed parenting suitcase.” Participants will: \n\nCreate healthy relationships with birth family members and other key individuals\nReview the impact of trauma and trauma informed parenting\nDefine secondary traumatic stress\nIdentify strategies for dealing with secondary traumatic stress\n\nThis session will teach parents how to nurture and promote the well-being of their youth through trauma-informed parenting.
