SUMMARY:2025 Social Work Lobby Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us on February 25\, 2025\, for Social Work Lobby Day at the Kentucky State Capitol! As social work and criminal justice students\, it is critical to become familiar with our legislative processes in the classroom and in our communities. We also have to understand their impacts on Kentucky citizens. Join us to learn about these processes and to meet advocates\, legislators\, and other social workers interested in advancing social justice. If you have questions\, contact Kayla Powell\, Director of Student Experience & Engagement. \nRegistration is required at this link or the one under website below. \nCoSW is chartering a bus to transport students to and from Frankfort. Students who register for the event and indicate they will ride the bus should meet us on the bus loop off Avenue of Champions (across from Memorial Coliseum and in front of the Bowman Statue). Students should arrive no later than 7am\, and we plan to return to campus by 5:30. Registrants will receive more information before the event. Lunch is provided for students. Students who do not have an on-campus parking pass can receive a voucher to park in Structure #5 on S Limestone. \nWhat to Expect:\n\n8:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Meet with legislators\, observe committee meetings\, and tour the capitol. UK College of Social Work faculty will be there with you\, so you are not doing this alone!\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch in the Capitol Cafeteria (provided at no cost to students)\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: KY NASW Rally in the Rotunda – Celebrate the power of social work\, advocacy\, and self-advocacy as self-care in a rally featuring inspiring speakers and fellow advocates.\n2:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Observe proceedings in the Kentucky House and Senate chambers
