DESCRIPTION:This course equips participants with a deep understanding of the intricate dynamics between bonding\, and attachment\, and the critical role they play in fostering healthy relationships with children. The course will delve into the distinct differences between bonding and attachment\, enabling participants to grasp the nuanced nuances that define these concepts. Throughout the training\, participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and comprehend the essential components of the four styles of attachment. \nThis comprehensive exploration will empower them to recognize and understand the behavioral patterns and emotional connections inherent in secure\, anxious-ambivalent\, avoidant\, and disorganized attachment styles. \nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. DESCRIPTION:First Steps: Kentucky’s Early Intervention System explores the services provided by this program. Participants learn how to refer children ages zero to three who have developmental delays\, or medical conditions known to cause developmental delays\, for First Steps services. We are a general kinship community open to anyone providing kinship care in Kentucky. \nFacilitated by Judy Russell\, Mental Health Specialist for Fayette County Public Schools\, was raised by her great-grandmother from infancy. In her 20’s\, Judy began caring for her sister’s three children that she later adopted. Throughout her career\, Judy has supported kinship families through the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the public school system. \nAs a result\, Judy has worked with countless youth and their families\, helping them navigate the challenges of raising children of all ages while supporting caregivers in their journey. This webinar is designed specifically for you\, to offer practical\, compassionate tools that can help the children in your care heal\, feel safe\, and truly thrive. \nTrust-Based Relational Parenting (TBRI) is a powerful\, evidence-based approach that understands the unique needs of children who have experienced loss\, trauma\, or big changes in their lives. It’s not about quick fixes; it’s about building deep connections\, understanding behavior through a new lens\, and creating a healing environment. \nAbout the Trainer: \nAngela Jamison\, MSW\, CSW\, LSW is an adoptive mother of five in the Northern Bluegrass region. After fifteen years as a foster parent\, she pursued her Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky\, graduating in December of 2023 with her MSW and a Trauma Responsive Practice Certificate. Following graduation\, she obtained her CSW from the state of Kentucky and her LSW from the state of Ohio. \nShe is passionate about sharing her love and knowledge of mental health\, foster / kinship care and adoption with families and does so by partnering with Children’s Mental Health Resource Center as their Training and Outreach Director\, Foster Care and Adoption Specialist as well as running her own nonprofit aimed at reducing stigma\, educating the greater society\, and empowering individuals in their foster\, adoptive\, and mental health journeys. With her children – four teenagers and a five-year-old – she loves traveling\, reading and going to the movies. SUMMARY:Responsible Conduct of Research Training
DESCRIPTION:Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training is required for any faculty\, staff\, and students who are involved in research activities\, enrolled in UK CoSW doctoral studies\, paid on grant\, and/or are on current IRB protocol. These RCR training requirements include BOTH an online training on the CITI website and an in-person (synchronous zoom) training session. This event satisfies the in-person portion of RCR Training. SUMMARY:New Placements: Preparing and Adjusting Family Roles
DESCRIPTION:New Placements: Preparing & Adjusting Family Roles will help foster and adoptive parents introduce new placements into their existing family units. It gives ideas and strategies on how to prepare children and family already in the home to best welcome a new foster or adoptive child. It also describes challenges children already in the home (biological\, foster\, adoptive\, step\, etc.) may be confronted with when a new child is introduced into the nuclear family. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nPrepare their family to welcome a new foster or adoptive placement into their existing family structure.\nUtilize strategies to address and overcome perceived challenges felt by children already in their home as well as new placements to make the transition smoother.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. There is 1.5 hours of ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit available for Kentucky’s foster parents. \nCreate an account or log-in to register for this training. A reliable internet connection and a smartphone\, tablet\, or computer with web camera is needed to participate. If there are two adults in the same household that want to participate in this training\, each person must register separately. Foster parent training credit is administered based on the duration of the meeting and each attendee’s participation.
