SUMMARY:Managing Big Emotions
DESCRIPTION:This training helps foster and adoptive families understand and navigate intense emotional reactions from children. Participants will explore the causes of big emotions\, effective strategies for regulation\, and ways to foster emotional resilience. The goal is to equip caregivers with tools to support children through emotional challenges in a compassionate and trauma-informed manner. \nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. There is 1.5 hours of ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit available for Kentucky’s foster parents \nCreate an account or log-in to register for this training. DESCRIPTION:The presentation focuses on the challenges and solutions related to providing mental healthcare in rural areas. Additionally\, the presentation will offer a comprehensive examination of the complexities of rural mental healthcare\, including access and stigma\, barriers to treatment\, and integrated care approaches. Innovative approaches to address these challenges and promote mental well-being in rural communities will be explored. \nLearning Outcomes \nAt the conclusion of this training\, you will be able to: \n\nDefine the objectives to address particular aspects of rural mental healthcare in KY\, such as increasing awareness\, reducing stigma\, improving access\, and overcoming treatment barriers.\nDescribe and explain the key components and benefits of integrated care models in rural mental healthcare.\nExamine and reflect on stigma-related beliefs about mental health in rural communities in order to demonstrate increased positive attitudes and support-seeking perspectives.\nAnalyze and advocate for strategies that reduce treatment barriers for rural populations through policy and resource allocation efforts.\n\nDelivery Method\nSynchronous interactive distance (live virtual) \nCost\n$20\n\nCredit Hours\n1.0 (ACE) \nAccreditation \nUniversity of Kentucky College of Social Work\, Provider # 1377\, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. During her clinical career\, Dr. Napier has been involved in research endeavors. \nHer clinical interests span from mood disorders\, suicidality prevention\, chronic pain\, substance abuse\, integrated behavioral healthcare\, ADHD\, Autism\, childhood trauma\, and co-occurring health conditions. \nIn addition to her passion for educating the next generation of future social work clinicians\, she maintains a small private behavioral health practice\, Behavioral Health Insights\, LLC\, where she provides telehealth psychotherapy\, training\, and clinical supervision for CSWs seeking supervision. \nDr. Napier earned her DBH from Arizona State University\, MSW from the University of Louisville\, and BSW from Morehead State University. \nBased in Hyden\, Kentucky\, Dr. Napier serves her Appalachian community with dedication. Waiver Program\, which allows eligible individuals to remain in their homes with services and supports. In addition\, participants will learn about SSI\, finding biological parents\, and the importance of planning for independent living for foster youth. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the Michelle P. It assists foster/adoptive parents with identifying as-risk behaviors and offers strategies to help address them. \nAfter completing this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify types of “at-risk” behaviors in youth.\nDiscuss strategies to problem solve “at–risk” behaviors to stabilize a child’s placement.\n\nASK-VIP trainings are expressly designed to meet the needs of foster and adoptive parents. Skilled trainers who have lived experiences with fostering and adoption provide these trainings in a virtual group setting. There is 1.5 hours of ongoing\, elective foster parent training credit available for Kentucky’s foster parents. \nCreate an account or log-in to register for this training. A reliable internet connection and a smartphone\, tablet\, or computer with web camera is needed to participate. If there are two adults in the same household that want to participate in this training\, each person must register separately. Foster parent training credit is administered based on the duration of the meeting and each attendee’s participation.
