Directions: As you create your Professional Development Plan, review the Priorities and Objectives outlined in the College of Social Work’s “Forward, Together Strategic Plan“. Align your professional goals with the college’s strategic vision and explain how your plan will support our collective progress. In doing so, you will directly address the question, “How will we move Forward, Together?”

Based on the above answers, please complete the fields below with your Professional Development Plan for 2024-2025. You should include a minimum of one goal entry and a maximum of three goal entries. In creating your goal(s), please consider the SMART criteria: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound.

Individual Advancement Plan (Complete Each Semester)

This section will serve as a blueprint for your semester to help you achieve your professional and personal goals. These goals should align with tenure and/or promotion expectations. The Associate Dean of Faculty Advancement, and the Chief Wellness Officer will review this plan to support you with your goals. The Associate Dean of Faculty Advancement will encourage you to also review this plan with a mentor(s) including peer mentors, to reflect upon your progress throughout the semester, and to report successes in the end-of-semester research report, acknowledgements, or other opportunities for recognizing your accomplishments.

Goal: This could be one overarching goal like “Write and publish X articles” or “Teach X sections of Y course,” then each objective would relate to each publication aim or teaching aspirations.

Objective: Each objective should relate to a specific area of emphasis. Examples: “Write and submit a manuscript on child advocacy” or add your working citation. “Provide instruction for X course applying more individual feedback” or “Use alerts whenever applicable”

Action steps: Considering your role in this area of focus, and the contributions of colleagues, what needs to be done? Examples: “I am writing the discussion; ABC is writing the introduction. Full review by all authors needed.” or “Complete X training. Map out weekly engagement activities. Craft routine responses as well as notes for tailoring responses.”

Progress made: Where are you in the process of accomplishing the objective? Examples: “Methods and results are drafted; journal needs to be identified.” “Held meeting with ABC; Reviewed syllabus; Read updated readings and assignments, including criteria/rubric.”

Resources: Consider anything you need to accomplish this objective, including resources, support, or skills. What do you need? Examples: “Need editing services, weekly attendance at a writing group, setting smaller deadlines, etc.” or “Incorporate one minute papers at end of 3rd week to gather student feedback early in semester; Identify media supplements.”

Target date: When do you plan to complete this objective? Examples: “Submit manuscript by December 202X.” or “Throughout the fall 202X semester.”

Research

Research includes writing and scholarship, funding, and management of research projects or other research endeavors.
