The SWAA Alumni-Student Mentoring Program for Spring 2023 has officially begun!
The program, which operates exclusively via Wildcat Network, offers an opportunity for the College of Social Work to establish stronger connections with our alumni and also allows alumni to make a difference in the lives of current students as they work toward a career in social work.
During the application window in November 2022, an overwhelming number of student mentee applications were received. Thanks to our alumni who were willing to step up, we were able to match every interested student with an alumni mentor, for a total of 91 mentor-mentee pairs!
Upon notification of their mentoring program match, the student mentee was responsible for initiating contact with their alumni mentor.
By January 31, each pair will hold their first meeting and establish goals and communication preferences for the program. From February-May, they will meet a minimum of once each month and will also participate in a supplementary activity of their choosing, which could include activities such as participating in a mock job interview or reading and discussing a book or article.
At the end of the program, all will be asked to complete a survey to provide feedback, which will be taken into consideration for future iterations of the program.
We are confident that meaningful relationships will be established during the SWAA Alumni-Student Mentoring Program and look forward to sharing participant stories with you in the future.
