De-escalation Training
March 10 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

A focused overview of practical communication tactics to defuse tense encounters before they escalate. Grounded in the Surviving Verbal Conflict® framework and UKPD field experience, the session emphasizes tactical empathy, brief deflection language, and clearly stating the “why” behind requests.
Participants will learn to:
- Spot early verbal and non‑verbal indicators of escalation.
- Use respectful deflectors to acknowledge emotion and redirect behavior.
- State policy and safety rationale using clear “commander’s intent.”
- Offer options and fair consequences; confirm decisions.
- Know when to disengage, call for assistance, and document.
The in person event will be facilitated by Officer Michael Culver and will be held from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM in the EOC Room (228) at the 90.
