About Military Behavior Health Lab

CoSW is steadfastly committed to serving those who serve our country. One way that commitment is actualized is through the work of the Military Behavioral Health Lab (MBH).

MBH is a unique lab focused on generating empirical knowledge and testing clinical interventions to address mental health and wellness issues that affect active-duty, reserve, and veteran military populations and their families. The lab builds on CoSW’s considerable expertise in working with military populations. MBH operates under the direction of Chris Flaherty. Flaherty, who is the Constance Wilson Professor in Mental Health, served as an officer in the United States Air Force.

In addition to research and outreach, MBH educates social work students about career opportunities within the Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Administration (VA), while training them to be the best candidates for those jobs. In 2016, CoSW established a partnership with DoD to offer a one-of-a-kind master’s degree. CoSW established a satellite campus within the Army Medical Department Center and School at Fort Sam Houston. Today, 70% of incoming Army social work officers hold a UK diploma.
