Rumination involves repetitive thinking or dwelling on negative feelings and distress and their causes and consequences. The repetitive, negative aspect of rumination can contribute to the development of depression or anxiety and can worsen existing mental health and other behavioral conditions. Focusing on negative thoughts can impede progress, interfere in relationships and negatively impact an individual’s health and wellness.
During this training, foster parents will learn practical steps to increase their mental real-estate and improve their cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills. More specifically, this training will help parents learn strategies that can be modeled to their foster youth to increase resiliency. Parents will:
This training is approved for 1.5 credit hours for ongoing, elective training credit for Kentucky foster parents. Though the training is delivered virtually, it fulfills the face-to-face, group-setting requirement. A reliable internet connection and computer/ smartphone with webcam are required.
