This training is for DCBS and Private Agency Foster Parents who have been approved by their R&C Supervisor and/or agency to attend. This is the initial training that all Resource Parents must complete before they can be approved as a Medically Complex Foster Home. This training is comprised of 5.25 hours of prerequisite web-based trainings and 6.75 hours of classroom training for 12 total training hours.
Prior to attending this training, participants must complete a series of web-based trainings. These trainings are: Medically Complex: Orientation, Medically Complex: Nutrition, Medically Complex: Standards of Practice, and Medically Complex: Growth and Development. All of these trainings should be completed no later than one-week prior to the start of the Join Hands Together training or participants may be cancelled. If these prerequisites are completed more than six months prior to attending the Join Hands Together classroom training, they must completed again to ensure participants are equipped with the knowledge and information provided through these web-based trainings.
MUST be completed no later than the date listed in the description. There are four (4) web-based trainings that serve as prerequisites to the initial medically complex training, Join Hands Together. These include Medically Complex Orientation (2.25 hours), DCBS Standards of Practice for Medically Complex Homes (1 hour), Growth and Development (1 hour) and Nutrition (1 hour). These are required for all foster parents before they attend the in-person or virtual Join Hands Together training, which provides the remaining 6.75 hours of initial Medically Complex training credit.
While children are welcome at the venue, children cannot be allowed in the training. This includes the lunch session. Please make sure your children have a care provider with them at all times, and that you have informed your worker/agency of lodging needs for children and care providers. Cell phones are allowed in training sessions, but you are asked to keep them on “silent”, and if you must take a call, please step out of the room.
Registration for the training begins at 9:30am. Attendees should plan to arrive early enough to allow time to register and receive their training materials. PCP participants will also need to pay $10.00 IN CASH at this time for their lunch.
Training participants with a private agency will be required to pay $10.00 IN CASH for lunch, which is provided at the event and is part of the training. Private agency participants are also responsible for their lodging expenses, which are $99.00 plus tax per night at the Clarion Hotel, 1950 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY 40511. Training is conducted through the meal so attendance at the meal is required to receive full training credit. Lunch will include water or iced tea. Private agency participants should request their lodging via TRIS and not make arrangements separately to ensure they receive the best possible lodging rate.
Breakfast is not provided at the training. Please feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to the training sessions. These items will not be provided. Vending Machines are available at this location.
Participants with special dietary needs or restrictions (vegetarian, allergies, etc) or special lodging needs, must contact Bryan Back at bback2@uky.edu in advance of the training. Every effort will be made to work with the venue to accommodate those requests.
Attendees will not be able to check into the Clarion hotel until after 4:00 p.m., though rooms are often available before that time. Check out must be completed by 11:00 a.m.
The training will be located in the UK College of Social Work Training Resource Center, 1648 McGrathiana Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511
