Talk with Judge Melissa Murphy

Join us for a special conversation with Judge Melissa Moore Murphy, a distinguished leader in law and public service whose career reflects a deep commitment to justice, equity, and community. A two-time graduate of the University of Kentucky, Judge Murphy has served Fayette County as District Court Judge since 2020, where she co-founded the first Juvenile Treatment Court to provide holistic support for court-involved youth. Her decades-long career includes service as a prosecutor, senior attorney for Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, and membership on numerous boards and commissions advancing racial justice, juvenile advocacy, and mental health reform.
Judge Murphy’s impact extends far beyond the courtroom. A dedicated civic leader, she serves with organizations such as the Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health, the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, and the Central Kentucky Chapter of Jack and Jill, where she is President. She is also an ordained minister and a proud lifelong member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. With countless honors—including the 2024 University of Kentucky Lyman T. Johnson Torch of Excellence Award—Judge Murphy continues to embody her guiding principle that “service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”
