Talk with Scarlet Thomas, MSW (Religious Competency)
Scarlet Thomas is a LCSW who has her own private practice and is the executive director for the Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work. She also teaches undergraduate courses at the University of the Cumberlands and Eastern Kentucky University. She is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has a lot of experience studying trauma and modalities of treatment to assist in processing it. Scarlet has worked in a variety of areas of social work including adolescent residential treatment, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, providing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, outpatient therapy, and clinical management. Scarlet is passionate about social work and teaching others about the field.
Upon completion of presentation individuals will:
- Understand the importance of religious cultural competence in ethical and effective social work practice.
- Identify ways to transition from awareness to advocacy in their work with clients and communities.
- Apply practical tools to combat feelings of burnout and begin advocating for change, even in small, manageable ways.
