Children in kinship care deserve equal access to life’s adventures, whether that’s playing on a sports team, wearing the perfect dress to prom, or going on a destination field trip. But, without financial support, these adventures can remain out of reach. Kinship Family Supports is here to help. Housed in the University of Kentucky College of Social Work’s Kentucky Kinship Resource Center, Kinship Family Supports is providing one-time payments of $250 per child (up to 4 children) to help offset the costs of typical childhood experiences.

One-time payments of $250 are available to kinship caregivers for each kinship child in their care (up to 4 children).

Support from Kinship Family Supports can be used to offset the costs of typical childhood experiences.

Do I Qualify?

Kinship Family Supports is available to all kinship caregivers* throughout Kentucky who have a valid email address, serve as the primary caregiver of a friend or relative’s child, and are currently involved in KY-KINS. Caregivers may request a one-time payment of $250 per kinship child in their care (up to 4 children) to offset the cost of typical childhood experiences. A limited amount of funds are available; they will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

*While Kinship Family Supports is unable to work with kinship caregivers who are providing foster care services for their kinship child, other support options are available through the UK College of Social Work’s Training Resource Center.

These funds may be taxable. If you receive $600 or more in a calendar year through any program or source at the University of Kentucky, then you will receive a 1099 statement.

Financial support can be critical for kinship families. We are proud to help meet that need through the Kinship Family Support Program.
