BASW Curriculum Overview

Students have the option to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. To complete a BASW, students complete the following:

  1. UK Core Requirements
  2. Pre-Professional Courses
  3. Major Requirements
  4. Professional Social Work Program Coursework
  5. Guided Electives
  6. Minimum of 120 credit hours to complete a bachelor’s degree.

Pre-Professional Courses

  • SW 124 Introduction to Social Work and Diverse Populations and
  • SW 222 Development of Social Welfare, or
  • SW 322 Introduction to Social Work and Social Welfare

Major Requirements

Students are required to complete coursework in biology, psychology, sociology, political science, anthropology, math, statistics, economics, logic as part of the BASW program as well as SW 240: Career Readiness for Helping Professionals. Many of these major requirements also meet UK Core requirements.

Professional Social Work Coursework

Students must apply and be admitted to the professional social work education program to take professional coursework.
