Kentucky Association of School Social Work names Lori Lazzari “KY Social Worker of the Year” 

Lori Lazzari’s dedication to the field of social work, both as an educator and practitioner, continues to inspire her students and colleagues. This year, she was named KY School Social Worker of the Year by KASSW.

LEXINGTON, KY (September 25, 2024) — Lori Lazzari, a part-time instructor at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work (CoSW), has been named the Kentucky School Social Worker of the Year by the Kentucky Association for School Social Work (KASSW). This prestigious award is given annually to recognize a school social worker who exemplifies the highest professional standards and demonstrates exceptional leadership and service in the field. 

Lazzari, who teaches criminal justice and social work courses at CoSW, has earned widespread praise from students and colleagues alike for her commitment to education and social work practice. On Rate My Professors, Lazzari has a perfect five-star rating, with students consistently describing her as knowledgeable, kind, and deeply invested in their success. 

On Coursicle, Rate My Professor, and other common student-feedback sites, Lazzari consistently receives outstanding 5-star reviews and top recommendations from her students. One student review noted, “Ms. Lazzari was such a brilliant professor. I thought it was awesome how she can intertwine her backgrounds in law and social work to best teach criminal justice…. She is so understanding!” Another student echoed this sentiment, writing, “The most wonderful woman!!! She is so kind and knowledgeable and really cares about her students. She loves debating in a good way, and is just a light to be around.” 

“I am incredibly honored to be named the Kentucky School Social Worker of the Year,” said Lazzari. “This recognition means so much to me because school social workers play such a vital role in supporting students and families, especially in challenging times. I’ve always believed in the power of relationships and the importance of providing holistic support to students. It’s an absolute privilege to do this work.” 

In addition to her teaching role at the University of Kentucky, Lazzari is also the recipient of the CoSW Social Work Alumni Association (SWAA) Outstanding Field Instructor Award.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to guide this future workforce and see them grow into their roles.” Lazzar said. “Whether in the classroom or in the field, my goal is to ensure that students feel supported and empowered to make a difference.”
