LEXINGTON, Ky. — For 40 years, March has been officially designated as National Professional Social Work Month. During the month of March, the University of Kentucky College of Social Work (CoSW) celebrated the extensive reach of social work across various societal dimensions with the launch of its campaign, “Social Work is Everywhere.”

This year-long campaign is more than just a statement, it’s a reality that resonates with everyone, including those who may not yet realize their connection to it. This initiative aims to elevate the visibility of social work, showcasing how social workers play a crucial role in creating support and change in society. 

UK CoSW spent the month with its community, including faculty, staff, students, and alumni, engaging in meaningful conversations about the transformative field of social work. UK College of Social Work hosts 2024 Kentucky Association of Educators Spring Conference

The University of Kentucky College of Social Work kicked off National Social Work Month on March 1, hosting the Kentucky Association of Social Work Educators (KASWE) 2024 Spring Conference. The theme for the meeting was, ‘Social Work is Everywhere,’ celebrating the dynamic field of social work.

Social work students, faculty, and staff gathered at KY State Capitol for Social Work Lobby Day

CoSW students, faculty, and staff converged with policymakers and activists at the State Capitol to partake in the 2024 Social Work Lobby Day event on March 5. This assembly highlighted the essential roles of social workers, educators, and scholars in shaping public policy and fostering community engagement. 

CoSW celebrates National Social Work Month with alumni at UK men’s basketball game

On March 6, the CoSW came together with its alumni to support the UK Men’s Basketball team in the final home game of the season. The Social Work Alumni Association (SWAA) provided alumni a number of complimentary tickets, with 32 CoSW alumni coming together to watch a Wildcat victory as UK defeated Vanderbilt, 93-77.

College of Social Work goes out to the ball game

The CoSW and Dr. Justin “Jay” Miller, Dean and Dorothy A. Miller Research Professor in Social Work Education of CoSW invited all faculty, staff, and alumni to College of Social Work Day at Kentucky Proud Park as the Wildcats run-ruled the Georgia Bulldogs, 12-2, in seven innings.
