LEXINGTON, Ky. – This April, the Sport Social Work Research Lab (SSW-RL) at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work (CoSW) will co-host the second annual Global Games event, alongside the Martin Luther King Center and the UK International Center.
The Global Games will take place on Friday, April 18 at the Hilltop/Woodlawn lawn in front of Chellgren Hall, from 4-6 p.m. This event brings together students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds to participate in friendly competitions and interactive activities inspired by sports and games from around the world.
“Sport is very much an international language, and the Global Games will be a great way for people and communities to come together and participate in something that’s just fun and enjoyable,” Dr. Tarkington J Newman, director of the SSW-RL, said.
By engaging in sports and games that highlight various cultural traditions, participants learn about global customs, build cross-cultural connections, and embrace the power of teamwork. The purpose of the program is to connect students from different social identities and backgrounds and create a unique opportunity for them to recognize the origins of various sports and the countries where they are celebrated.
The SSW-RL will be in attendance at the Global Games in partnership with the MLK Center and the International Center, helping support activities and sports from around the world. CoSW swag and other giveaways will also be available for participants.
